Delivering stunning luxury apartments and townhouses in Melbourne’s most aspirational suburbs, Lowe Living’s pursuit of excellence in design and meticulous construction of premium developments is realised through our ongoing collaboration with best-in-industry architectural and design partners.

Since its inception, Lowe Living has worked alongside many inspiring architects and dynamic interior designers and we continue to expand our network of respected Melbourne partners.

Last month we saw the launch of Lumiere Black Rock, a unique series of six boutique apartments born from its stunning scenery and sitting at the cultural heart of the community. For this project Lowe Living partnered with award-winning architectural practice, Warren and Mahoney.
Known for capturing the social and cultural identities of communities, Warren and Mahoney is an Australasian architectural and design practice founded on a deep-seated belief in the power of design to influence lives. Their work strives to resonate with communities and create a sense of belonging, aligning with Lowe Living’s vision for Lumiere to be a true reflection of it’s breathtaking surrounds and have a strong connection to the local area.

Inspired by the geotechnical formations and local history of Black Rock’s Half Moon Bay, Warren and Mahoney’s design intent for Lumiere replicates the contrast that exists between the curved lines of HMVS Cerberus, sunk just off the bay’s shoreline, and the rough edges of the seaside cliffs.

“When we start any project, we first undertake research on the location and its community. For Lumiere we became fascinated by the Red Bluff cliffs of Half Moon Bay, and by the ship HMVS Cerberus within its waters” explains Nick Deans, Principal Architect at Warren and Mahoney.

“There is something fascinating in the profound impact water has on the coastline within Half Moon Bay. The way everything above the high tide line is rough and heavily textured, compared to the smooth surface below the water”. This was used to inform the exterior treatment to the building, with a rough split-faced limestone cladding used on the first floor in contrast to the smooth walls of the ground floor, representing the same textural quality of the stone cliff faces.

Nick drew inspiration from HMVS Cerberus through the use of curved geometry on both the interior and exterior of the building, “curved walls lead you into Lumiere from the street, and the first-floor balconies present a curved edge in contrast to the buildings rectilinear form.” In addition to the exterior, the curved edges to the island bench in the kitchen also reference the HMVS Cerberus.

Each residence has a unique floorplan, designed with entertaining in mind. Outdoor spaces flow into the large open plan living, kitchen and dining spaces. “The layouts are focused around their connection to the outdoors, and natural light”, explains Nick. All ground floor apartments have large courtyards with beautiful landscape design by Jack Merlo, while the first-floor apartments feature large balconies with plenty of space for outdoor furniture.

Of the inspiration behind the finishes and colour palette for Lumiere, Nick says “it is inspired by the natural forms, textures, and colours reflective of Bayside”. The kitchens feature natural stone benchtops and timber veneer cabinetry, continuing this through to the bathrooms, creating a sophisticated and restrained palette for residents to add their own personal aesthetic.

These six spacious residences are uniquely refined and effortlessly charming in every way, with each one is just as ambitious in its design as the next, and a true reflection of its breathtaking surroundings.
